New in 2025 in our Metals Fabrication Studio is Torch-a-Thon! Torch-a-Thon will take place the same time as Weave-a-Thon on November 15, 2025, from noon to midnight. During this 12-hour event, metalsmiths will design and fabricate ornaments which will then be available for sale in CC’s Store on November 21, as part of CRAFTED. Part-fundraiser, part-production studio, and part-party, this event reaches across all areas of CC’s operations.
Participating metalsmiths are current and former students and instructors in the Metals Studio at CC, as well as members of the Allegheny Metals Collective.. Each metalsmith signs up for 2-hour increments of time (or in some cases all 12 hours!). At their designated time they will begin making ornaments at the bench. As each ornament is completed, it will be tagged to go on display in the Store to debut at CRAFTED in the Store on November 21. Each ornament will sell for $40 and the metalsmith who made it will receive a $20 artist commission.

Great question! There are many ways you can support the Torch-a-Thon event and support your favorite metalsmith.
Each metalsmith will be collecting sponsors. Sponsors can give a donation per hour, or can donate a flat amount. The metalsmith who collects the most donations will receive a free workshop at Contemporary Craft. Just select the metalsmith of your choice from the drop down menu.
If you don’t know a specific metalsmith but would still like to sponsor the event, that would be amazing! Click below and make your general donation.
All of the ornaments that are fabricated will be available in Contemporary Craft’s Store beginning at the CRAFTED event on November 21. Please consider joining us at CRAFTED to have the first shot at purchasing a Torch-a-Thon ornament.
Please come to Contemporary Craft to see the metalsmiths in action and cheer them on. We will be open to the public until 9pm.
All of the proceeds from Torch-a-Thon will support the growth of our Studio Programming. With our expansion into Timmons Studios in March 2025, we have a brand new Blacksmithing Studio as well as the return of a Wood Studio and extensive fibers programming.
