Hi! My name is Kathryn Scheuring and I’ve been volunteering at Contemporary Craft (CC) for the better part of this year.
I first came to CC as a junior in college, while taking a Museum Studies class at the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) with CC’s Executive Director, Janet McCall. I interned for a semester at CC and had a wonderful experience, getting to work in both the exhibitions and studio departments. Working with the Director of Exhibitions Kate Lydon during my internship is part of what initially sparked my interest in exhibitions.
After graduating from Pitt with a degree in History of Art and Architecture, I took a year off and decided to spend some of my time back at CC. It was wonderful to be welcomed back and to jump into some of the same kinds of projects I worked on a couple of years ago.
I am beginning graduate school in January 2015, and it’s been great to work somewhere in my field of interest (and to keep my photoshop skills from getting rusty). I will be studying exhibition design at Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, DC. Being in an environment like Contemporary Craft has been a great help in keeping up with the art scene in Pittsburgh, and the talented artists who contribute to the gallery and shop are always an inspiration.
