Under the Palaver Tree presents works by Atlanta-based artist, Masela Nkolo. In many African traditions, the palaver tree is a communal and spiritual gathering place where stories are shared, conflicts are resolved, and knowledge and collective memories are passed down. Rooted in his Congolese heritage, Nkolo reimagines this space within the gallery as a forum for reflection on the complexities of contemporary Congo. Through layered symbols, gestures, and materials, his work forms a visual language that carries cultural memory while responding to present realities.
