This spring Teaching Artist/Papermaker/Printmaker Katy DeMent led a 20-day Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media Artist Residency Project, co-sponsored by Fiberart International 2022, with 18 Creative Citizens Studios Citizen-artists and 82 Pittsburgh CAPA 6-12 students, culminating in the exhibition A Means to a Beginning. This is the sixth Artist Residency Project that Fiberart International has co-sponsored since 2007.
Over the course of this residency, participant artists learned about hand paper making as a contemporary art form that can be expressive and versatile within its composition and construction, as well as a surface for embellishment to produce dynamic artworks.
These artists recycled, shredded, folded, pleated, embossed, collaged, sculpted, stitched, pulp-painted, printed, collaborated, communicated, curated, framed, organized, smiled, laughed, learned, and were inspired while exploring STEAM-centered processes.
