Welcome Blanket Project pt. 2

Welcome Blanket Project with International Sculpture Center
3-hour workshop
Date: Saturday, February 21st, 2026
Time: 10am-1pm
Description: The Welcome Blanket Project aims to connect people already living in the United States with our country’s newest immigrants through stories and handmade blankets, providing both symbolic and literal comfort and warmth. The International Sculpture Center and Contemporary Craft are proud to serve as a partner to this iteration of the Welcome Blanket project.
Led by local artists, participants will create 10”x10” squares to be sewn into a communal 40”x40” final quilt. Our 10”x10” squares will be made with an iron-on interface, so no sewing or quilting experience is required! Premade templates will be available for use, or you can make your own. This activity is also encouraged for all age groups (with adult supervision). Come by for just a little, or stay for the whole program!
Are you a sewist looking to finish some projects? Help us quilt our final pieces together! (Machines provided)
Tuition: FREE!
If you are able, please consider a $5 donation to help support Contemporary Craft and cover material costs.
Materials: Feel free to bring in your own material or use what we have in the studio. The Studio will have irons, ironing boards, cutting station, fabric scissors, rulers, and rotary blades for student use.
Location: Contemporary Craft, Timmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Note, this workshop will take place in the Fleischner Family Fiber Loft, located on the second floor.
The ADA accessible entrance to Timmons Studio is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. There is a lift inside the building to access the second floor.
If there are accessibility accommodations we can provide, or if there is anything you would like us to know before you arrive, please feel free to call Libby Scutt at 412-484-2494 or email Lscutt@contemporarycraft.org.
