Teen Blacksmithing Basics! with Glen Gardner

Time: 10am-5pm
Description: Discover the art of blacksmithing in this hands-on, beginner-friendly workshop designed just for teens! Participants will learn basic forge safety, how to use traditional blacksmithing tools, and fundamental techniques such as heating, shaping, and hammering steel. By the end of the day, each student will complete a simple forged project to take home while gaining confidence and an appreciation for this historic craft. No prior experience is necessary.
Tuition: $120 + $20 materials fee
Materials: All materials included.
Students should wear natural fibers such as cotton and denim. Uncuffed pants and closed-toe shoes are required (no shorts or sandals permitted). Long hair should be restrained. Safety glasses and hearing protection are provided; however, participants may bring their own if preferred. We recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated!

Cancellations: Cancellations are decided one business day before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.

About the Artist
Glen Gardner is a Pittsburgh based metalsmith working in all metals. Gardner produces functional and ornamental works including jewelry, tools, holloware and sculpture. He has taught at Penland School (NC), Peters Valley (NJ) TouchCenter for Craft (PA). Gardner has exhibited widely in The U.S. and his work is included in several public and private collections. Currently operating as GSG Studio his work is now focused on hammer raised vessel forms. Gardner’s work relies on the use of simple hand tools to produce objects rich in texture and color.
