Scrimshaw: Old & New with Eden Tighe

7-Hour Workshop
Date: Saturday, July 12th
Time: 10am-5pm
Description: This introduction to scrimshaw will share historic and contemporary uses of scrimshaw. Eden will start by sharing a presentation of its evolution over time, followed by demonstrating foundational skills. Students will create samples engraving traditional mark making like hatching, cross-hatching, and stippling. Once students feel confident in the foundational skills, she will demonstrate techniques like mixing inks, charcoal and then material specific techniques. Students will leave with not only the fascinating knowledge of scrimming, but also some samples and a fun project to wear or display at home, in your car, or even your bathroom. Students are encouraged to bring their own materials like bone to scrim on!
