Saw and Solder Champleve with Maria Camera-Smith

7-Hour Workshop
Date: Saturday, January 13, 2024
Time: 10am-5pm
Description: Learn the saw-and-solder champleve method of enameling to create your own colorful copper pendant or earrings (students may work in sterling silver if they choose to bring their own). Students will be directed to use hand tools to saw through sheet metal to create cells to fill with enamel. Topics of discussion will include depletion gilding, and basic soldering and enameling techniques. Demonstrations include wet-packing, stoning, and finishing techniques. Students are encouraged to experiment and make samples, but also to create a finished pendant or pair of earrings. Enameling experience is warmly welcomed but not required.
Tuition: $95 + $25 materials fee
Materials: Students are asked to bring a sketchbook or notebook. If you would like to work in sterling silver, you are welcome to bring your own 18 gauge and 16 gauge sterling silver with you. All other materials will be provided.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

About the Artist
Maria Camera-Smith is a metalsmith, enamelist, and jeweler whose work focuses on nostalgia, identity, and boy adornment. Her works are made with contemporary metalsmithing techniques, precious materials and enamel. Camera-Smith is currently a bench jeweler for Skelton Jewelry Design. She was the 2021-2023 Artist in Residence in Jewelry & Metalsmithing at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, FL. She earned her MFA in Jewelry, Metals, and Enameling from Kent State University, OH in 2021and a BFA in Metalsmithing from Slippery Rock University, PA in 2015. Camera-Smith is a member of the Allegheny Metals Collective (AMC) and Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG).
