Papermaking: Pulp Painting with Mia Brown-Seguin
3-hour workshop

Time: 1:30-4:30 pm
Description: Create magical pulp paintings with stencils or abstract imagery in this introductory workshop!
Learn to form sheets of handmade paper, using western papermaking techniques and experiment with finely beaten, pigmented pulp (the fibrous materials used to form paper) to embed designs into the sheets. Pulp painting is a unique surface design technique wherein the pigmented image or design is intrinsic to the paper!
Beginners are welcome, No experience is required or expected.
Tuition: $65+ $20 materials fee

Materials: All materials will be provided.
Note: We really want you to join us in the studio! Full and partial tuition scholarships are available to offset some of the financial burden of attending a class.

Location: Contemporary Craft, Timmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201). Note, this workshop will take place in the Papers Studio, which is on the first floor of the building.
There are 2 entrances to the Timmons Studios.
• One entrance is facing Butler Street. To access the Paper Studio from the Butler Street facing entrance, there are a total of 8 stairs to ascend. . From there, you can enter the Paper Studio directly
• One entrance is facing 57th Street. This entrance is accessible by ramp, with no stairs to ascend. Please ring the doorbell to the left of the frosted glass door, and staff will let you in. From there, the paper studio is down the hallway.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.
About the Artist
Mia Brown-Seguin is a papermaker, sculptor, and educator born in Massachusetts. She has been awarded residencies at Contemporary Craft and the Morgan Conservatory, with work held in permanent collections, including the University of Iowa’s Special Collections: the Peter and Donna Thomas Fine Press Collection. Brown-Seguin is a recipient of the Edith Stone and Walter King Memorial Prize and the Cornell Council of the Arts Grant. She received her BFA from Cornell University and subsequently attended Longwood University’s Working Artist Program.
