June 23, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

  • « VIRTUAL: Needle Felted Flowering Dogwood with Kari Roslund
  • Mini Metals: Intro to Metalsmithing with Sarah Sindler »
Join us for Loom Club!

What is Loom Club?

The loom is a tool that brings together all of the studios at Contemporary Craft: wood, metals, fiber ! Loom Club is a new volunteer group forming at Contemporary Craft! Over the past few months, several angels have donated looms to the fiber studio at Contemporary Craft. The looms are beautiful, though they all could use a little love to bring them to full working condition. This will be the first goal of Loom Club: we will get these seven looms in great working condition for weaving classes to begin this September!

Together, through the process, we will learn a lot about looms! So, after we reach our initial goal, we hope Loom Club will continue to meet and grow as a local resource for loom- enthusiasts and weavers.

Do you need to know anything about weaving or looms to join? No! Loom Club is open to all!

Here is a short list of some of the interests and skills that potential Loom Club members might bring to the group:

  • woodworking, carpentry, wood restoration and care.
  • metals (fabrication and maintenance)
  • machines and mechanical engineering
  • fiber arts and weaving
  • internet research (in other words, googling things!)
  • comfort and enjoyment in making phone calls to other loom manufacturers and weavers
  • enthusiasm for hardware and fasteners
  • solving puzzles
  • archiving and library science
  • note taking
  • project management and schedule-making
  • object design, furniture design, and engineering

Benefits to joining Loom Club:

  • fun: laughter is guaranteed !
  • community: meet new pals!
  • learn a lot about looms (and woodworking, fasteners and hardware, and….)
  • contribute to the naming of the looms (one loom arrived at Contemporary Craft with a given name already: The Edna. When Loom Club has reached our first goal, all seven looms here will have names!)
  • help build a valuable resource of loom information and maintenance guides to share with other weavers
  • snacks and drinks will be served at Loom Club meetings !
  • Loom Club swag (once we have a logo!)
