Intro to Woodworking: Wooden Stool with Teresa Audet

Date: Thursdays, January 8-February 12, 2025
Time: 6pm-9pm
Description: In this 6-part series workshop, students will learn how to use the woodshop tools and will build their own wooden stool. We will cover the basics of woodworking using both machine and hand tools, including spindle turning and shaping by hand. Students will explore carved textures using gouges and spokeshaves, and learn how to layer milk paint to create dynamic finishes. Key skills covered will include turning spindles on the lathe, drilling complex angles, and cutting wedged mortise-and-tenon joinery. This class is suitable for all skill levels but will be fast-paced; students should bring a willingness to learn and have fun!
Tuition: $270 + $50 materials fee
Materials: All materials will be provided.
Location: Contemporary Craft Timmons Studios (5688 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201)
Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded by check, to your credit card, or Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

Teresa Audet is an artist and educator based in Pittsburgh, PA. Audet combines woodworking, basketry, papermaking in her studio and social practice. Her work focuses on play, resilience, and the transformative power of craft.
