October 5 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
3-Hour Workshop
Date: Saturday, October 5
Time: 10am-1pm
Description: Have you ever wanted to spin your own yarn? Learn the basics in this 3-hour workshop! In this introductory class, students will learn the basics of spinning their own yarn on a drop spindle, an ancient tool that is still used today to turn fibers into wool.
We will start from the basic motions required to draft fibers and add twist to create yarn, then explore and refine technique before leaning to ply multiple strands together to create a skein of yarn..
Students will end the class with at least one mini-skein of yarn, with possibilities for spinning additional yarn as time allows, as well as the tools and information needed to continue their spinning journey.
No previous spinning experience is required or expected.
Please note that this class will be working primarily with wool fiber, and may not be suitable for those with wool allergies. Some accommodations can be made, but please notify Contemporary Craft by calling 412.261.7003 as soon as possible.
