Intro to Hand Spinning Yarn: Drop Spindle Series with Jasmine Davis
September 12 @ 6:00 pm - October 3 @ 9:00 pm
4-Part Series Workshop
Date: Thursdays, September 12 – October 3, 2024
Time: 6pm-9pm
Description: Have you ever wanted to spin your own yarn? Learn how in this 4-week series! In this introductory series, students will learn the skills they need to spin their own yarn on a drop spindle, an ancient tool that is still used today to turn fibers into wool.
We will start from the ground up, learning the motions needed to draft yarn and add twist to create a strand of yarn, then plying multiple strands together to create a skein, and finally finishing the yarn to prepare it for knitting, weaving, or other projects.
Students will end the class with at least one fully-finished skein of yarn, with possibilities for spinning additional yarn as time allows, as well as the tools and information needed to continue their spinning journey.
No previous spinning experience is required or expected.
Please note that this class will be working primarily with wool fiber, and may not be suitable for those with wool allergies. Some accommodations can be made, but please notify Contemporary Craft by calling 412.261.7003 as soon as possible.
