Hemp Hand Brooms with Tia Tumminello of Husk Brooms
2-Hour Workshop
Date: Saturday, March 29
Time: 10AM-12PM
Description: In this 2 hour workshop students will create a bundle brush, and simple cottage brush crafted with hemp cordage. The main cordage used will be hemp twine in natural color.
Students will create two small hand brooms.
This class is beginner friendly but requires strength in both hands and feet. These hand brooms are hand-tied and do not use any glue or adhesives. Using the foot bobbin without socks or shoes on is surprisingly easier and will be encouraged.
Both of these brushes are crafted for function and are great tools for cleaning small areas: desks, kitchen tables, stairs, fireplaces, or even radiators. Broomcorn is the essential natural material for household cleaning because it’s delicate enough to catch hair and smaller debris while being strong enough to bend without breaking.
Tuition: $45 + $25 materials fee
Materials: All materials will be provided.
Location: Contemporary Craft (5645 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201)
Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded by check, to your credit card, or Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.
