Coiled Baskets for Beginners with José Santiago Pérez

Description: Learn how to make a coiled yarn basket in a fun and supportive environment. You will learn how to begin, shape, and finish a basket, as well as experiment with color blocks to add visual interest to your unique design.
Tuition: $75 + $20 materials fee
Materials: All materials will be provided
Location: Contemporary Craft (5645 Butler St., Pittsburgh, PA 15201)
Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

About the Artist
José Santiago Pérez (b. Los Angeles) is an artist and educator based in Chicago. He is a 2024 Fiber Fellow at Colorado College, an Illinois Arts Council Agency Artist Fellowship Finalist in Craft, a 2022 Lunder Institute for American Art resident fellow, and a 2019-2020 HATCH resident at Chicago Artist Coalition. His work has been supported by an Illinois Arts Council Agency grant, and Individual Artist Program grant from the City of Chicago, and a Chicago Artists Coalition SPARK grant. José has presented solo and group exhibitions across the country and serves on the board of the National Basketry Organization. Features and reviews have appeared in Artforum, Basketry+ Magazine, Sixty Inches from Center, Newcity Art, and the Archives + Futures Podcast. He received an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and is currently a Visiting Lecturer in Sculpture and Visual Thinking at the University of Pittsburgh. José has held teaching appointments in the Art Department at Colorado College and in the Fiber and Material Studies Department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
