Chasing & Repousse: Pendant with Maria Camera-Smith

7-Hour Workshop
Date: Saturday, June 1, 2024
Time: 10am-5pm
Description: Students will be introduced to basic chasing and repoussé techniques using chasing tools, hammers, and pitch. Instruction will cover how to create volume in a flat sheet of metal using a hydraulic press, how to hammer texture metal, and how to define desired forms to achieve crisp imagry. Basic patination will also be covered. Students will be encouraged and advised to resolve their pieces as functional pendants. Please brainstorm designs prior to class!
Tuition: $95 + $30 materials fee

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.

A bout the Artist
Maria Camera-Smith is a metalsmith, enamelist, and jeweler whose work focuses on nostalgia, identity, and body adornment. Her works are made with contemporary metalsmithing techniques, precious materials and enamel. Camera-Smith is one of the winners of the Preziosa Young 2023-2024 International Design Competition/Exhibition in Florence, Italy. She is currently a bench jeweler for Skelton Jewelry Design and was the 2021-2023 Artist in Residence in Jewelry & Metalsmithing at the Armory Art Cetner in West Palm Beach, FL. Camera-Smith earned her MFA in Jewelry, Metals, and Enameling from Kent State University, OH in 2021 and a BFA in Metalsmithing from Slippery Rock University, PA in 2015. Camera-Smith is a member of the Allegheny Metals Collective (AMC) and Society of North American Goldsmiths.
