8-Week Workshop

Date: Tuesdays, September 10-October 29, 2024

Time: 6pm-9pm

Description: Contemporary Craft is thirlled to present this special opportunity to learn beading from the Olorgesailie Maasai Women Artisans of Kenya. Several Maasai women will be spending a few months in Pittsburgh this fall and have created an 8-week workshop series to teach traditional Maasai beading techniques.

Week 1- short introduction – mini-talk- complete beaded brooch or keychain on leather or upcycled fabric- begin beaded bracelet on leather

Week 2 – BRACELET – beading on leather vs beaded on fiber vs beading on wire- complete beaded bracelet on leather- beaded bracelet on fiber- beaded bracelet on wire

Week 3 – EARRING(S)- complete beaded bracelet- beaded earrings on fiber- beaded earrings on wire- beaded earrings on leather

Week 4 – BELT – complete earrings- beaded belt on leather- beading on brought in leather item

Week 5 – NECKLACE or BELT or CLOTHING – continue beaded belt- continue on other leather item OR clothing item – denim, leather, suede- beading multi-tiered necklace

Week 6 – NECLACE BELT CLOTHING- continue belt, necklace, clothing item- If finished begin New Design of your choice

Week 7 – NECKLACE BELT CLOTHING NEW DESIGN – continue item/s from Week 6- If finished begin New Design

Week 8- continue item/s from Week 7- If finished begin New Design – determine materials needed to continue on own- Show and tell complete collections from eight weeks.

Tuition: $265 + $40 materials fee

Materials: A starter kit of tools, materials, and beads will be provided and be sufficient to complete several smaller projects. A list of resources will be provided for you to purchase your own additional beads in specific colors and quantities to complete other projects of your choosing.

Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided three business days before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.

Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at least three business days before a class begins. There will be a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without three-business days notice. Processing of refunds takes approximately three weeks.
