An Introduction to Natural Dye with Visiting Artist Meredith Grimsley

2.5-Day Visiting Artist Workshop

- Friday, November 11 – 5pm-8pm
- Saturday, November 12 – 10am-5pm
- Sunday, November 13 – 10am-5pm
Description: Explore natural/sustainable dye methods using commercially purchased, but, sustainably/responsibly sourced, plant and insect matter and food waste restoration dyeing. Both whole cloth/skein and Shibori dying processes will be practiced. Examples of dye materials for the workshop: madder root; cochineal; logwood; turmeric; indigo; onion skins; avocado pits and more.
Tuition: $290 + $50 materials fee
Materials: Students may bring any 100% cellulose or protein fiber with them that they wish to dye. All other materials will be provided.

COVID-19: In accordance with current CDC guidance – we are recommending all visitors wear a mask. Please note that the recommendation applies to teaching artists, resident artists, students and guests attending events taking place at CC.
Visiting Artist Cancellations and Refunds: Workshop cancellations are decided one week before the start date. If workshops must be cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, the entire class fee will be refunded through Eventbrite, or you may leave your workshop fee in your Contemporary Craft account for future workshops.
Visiting Artist Refund Policy: Student refund requests must be made at 2 weeks before a class begins. There will be a $50 cancellation fee. No refunds will be given without 2 weeks notice.

About the Artist
Meredith Re’ Grimsley received her MFA in 2002, and her BFA in 1999, in Fabric Design from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Her work, including wearable art, installation, performance, two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, has been shown in numberous national and international venues in solo and group exhibitions. She is Professor of Fabric Design and Chairperson within the Department of Visual Arts for Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania – Bloomsburg/Lock Haven/Mansfield Universities.
