A message from the Executive Director
Contemporary Craft is more than an organization, it is a community. We exist in relationship through conversations that happen in our gallery, weaving together narratives in our studio spaces, and by connecting people to an object to hold in their hand or wear on their body—made from another person’s hand.
Our residency programs are bringing artists from both local neighborhoods and from across the country to share their lived experiences and showcase their artistic practices with us. And the Fiber Studio is not only bursting with active looms, it’s an incubator for new products and the formation of strong friendships.
The Community Days that we’ve been hosting see families returning to our space for creative experiences; and our exhibition tours bring people together through discussion— to learn from one another.
We are putting the final touches on our archives and permanent collection, and we’re looking forward to how we will begin to engage with the larger field of craft through research and sharing.
Building community is at the heart of Contemporary Craft, and I feel fortunate to walk through our spaces and see people laughing together, learning with one another, or experiencing something new in a group. I want to thank all of you for the role that you play in this—and the support that continues to make our space open and accessible.
Sincerely,
Rachel Saul Rearick
