A message from the Executive Director
Over the past year there have been two words that have permeated Contemporary Craft—“imagine” and “more.” These words individually note a wealth of possibilities and collectively convey an excitement of the journey towards realizing those possibilities.
In our workshops and community programs, students imagine craft materials as finished objects or tools for learning and then use their skills to bring their vision to life. Our exhibitions and Store pique visitors’ imaginations, especially as we have added more opportunities to highlight craft artists at all career stages. And of course, our Imagine More capital campaign has launched the Timmons Studios, inviting new opportunities for everyone to make and learn in our beautiful new studio spaces.
At the same time, “imagine” and “more” give a sense of movement, change, and even play. Pittsburgh has long been an underrecognized center of craft materials and artists, and along with our local craft colleagues, we are bringing our region to the forefront of the craft discussion. Throughout this report, you’ll see many ways that we are tapping into our imagination and creativity, elevating our region to the national and international stage to say, “Pittsburgh is Craft!”
I want to thank you for joining us in imagining what Contemporary Craft can be as an organization, in the Pittsburgh community, and for the field of craft. With boundless creativity being cultivated and nurtured within our walls, we can only imagine what you and everyone who visits will be inspired to do. We look forward to seeing you at Contemporary Craft soon!
Sincerely,
