About Exhibitions at Contemporary Craft

Main Galleries

Presenting contemporary art in craft media by international, national and regional artists since 1971, Contemporary Craft offers cutting edge exhibitions focused on multicultural diversity and non-mainstream art, as well as a range of classes, community outreach programs and a fantastic retail store. Exhibitions and family friendly hands-on art activities in a drop-in studio are always free to the public.

Contemporary Craft is proud to present two biennial exhibition series:

In 1997 the Elizabeth R. Raphael Founder’s Prize Exhibition was established. This major international juried exhibition offers a $5,000 prize as well as Contemporary Craft’s purchase of the winning piece for our permanent collection. This opportunity is funded by the daughters of Elizabeth R. Raphael, the founder of the organization and a nationally known figure in the contemporary art scene for many decades.

First presented in 1988, the Bridge Exhibition Series was established to heighten the public’s awareness of the powerful work being produced by contemporary artists. This invitational exhibition showcases three concurrent solo exhibitions by mid-career artists.

BNY Mellon Center (Satellite Gallery)

In 1990, Contemporary Craft established a satellite exhibition space at BNY Mellon Center which is located in downtown Pittsburgh. Five to six exhibitions are organized annually in this space. Located in the “T” station lobby of BNY Mellon Center and open daily through midnight.
